NMEA stands for National Marine Electronics Association. ABYC is the American Boat & Yacht Council. It is the essential source of technical information for the international marine industry, developing product safety standards for all the major boat systems. The development and annual review of these standards correlates directly to the significant reduction in the number of boating accidents over the past six decades.
Keep Lizza Rigging in mind for all your electronics needs including wiring, connections, grounding, voltage drops, electrolysis, navigation instruments, VHF, Radar, AIS, automatic pilots, and engine interfaces.

  1. From experience in the field, I notice that although NMEA standards enable different manufacturers topologies to “speak” to each other, it can still remain a Pandora’s box. I strongly advise choosing and remaining in the boundary of one unique product manufacturer. Physical cables, connections and interfaces can be different, albeit data transmissions are supposedly compatible.
